Accompanied by a letter from Canton dated 9th November 1843 to William Couper referring to Lam Qua, transcribed as;

'My Dear Couper. Yours of the 6th is to hand this morning and duly noted…..I am sorry to hear what you say in regard to your picture of Houqua, which has doubtless been sold to someone else and not burnt. I think Lamqua has gone to Hong Kong to finish a portrait of Admiral Parker. I have sent for him, and if not here will see him when he comes back and deliver your message to him…'
